Memphis Is Full Of Fun For Adults, But It Also Has Attractions For Kids (And Their Parents).
While many of Memphis’ attractions – Graceland, National Civil Rights Museum, etc. – are appealing to children, they will also find attractions tailored to their needs.
Our kids love going to the Memphis Zoo. The zoo is treat for whole family, with close-up encounters with grizzly bears, pandas, and wolves.
Kid-friendly attractions include Mud Island River Park / Mississippi River Museum, downtown trolley rides, bicycle tours along the Wolf River and visits to Buffalo and Shelby Farms. Unmissable in Memphis is the historic Peabody Hotel, in which the resident ducks make their daily rounds to and from their rooftop palace. But there’s no brighter location than A. Schwab’s on Beale Street, full of Bluff City souvenirs.
Fire Museum Of Memphis
It is located in the 1910 Engine House Number One. One of the museum’s highlights is a restored 1897 Hale Water Tower, that was used until 1973 to fight fires in buildings taller than two stories. “Fire Room” exhibit utilizes cutting-edge technology to recreate real-life disasters. You’ll feel the heat as firefighters battle huge blazes. Much greater, a talking horse tells old firefighting tales! It also has an interactive fire safety exhibit and information about emergency services such as EMS and 9-1-1, as well as a 1910 horse-drawn steam engine. A beautiful monument wall honours fallen firefighters.
Kids will love the antique engines & early firefighting artefacts, but it’s a great perfect venue a birthday party.
Discovery Park Of America
Discovery Park is located in Union City, the county seat of agricultural Obion County, and features interior and exterior exhibits & areas to explore. Hands-on exploration unites Discovery Park. Exhibits inside and out cover 50,000 square feet, providing hours of exploration for children and adults alike. Except for Memorial, Labor, and July 4th, the park was closed on Mondays.
Discovery Park is a wonderland for kids and adults alike, and therefore is worth the trip.
Children’s Museum Of Memphis
Happy kids! Touching is encouraged at this museum! Exhibits & activities for kids are really the focus here. Exhibit topics include waterworks, health, recycling, housing, money, and transportation. Painting, sculpting, or weaving are all available in the theatre area. An outdoor play area with a bank-shot basketball court was recently added. There’s a motion simulator, a hot air balloon, and a minivan that kids may “drive” and “fix.” A gift shop and a small cafe are on the premises.
The Children’s Museum’s educational-yet-fun exhibits will keep your kids occupied for hours.
Wolf River Greenway
A part of the Greater Memphis Greenline, Wolf River Greenway connects Collierville and Germantown. An extensive paved path with non-motorized activity runs all along Wold River. There is a pedestrian bridge across the Wolf River from Shady Grove Road And Shelby Farms Park to the greenway in east Memphis. There are restrooms on the Humphrey Boulevard side of the greenway, and benches and other places to relax throughout this well-designed section.
The rambling greenway is just a delight to children, who can bike, skate, and walk along it.
